light in the darkness
The outbreak of coVID-19 is perhaps the most serious disaster of the year. There are too many tears flowing silently, painful and touching... Our class held a meeting at 10 am on September 28. The students from group 309 shared a documentary— "life Matters" .
This documentary is not deliberately sensational, it uses calm but not cold lens, recording the most real story of the epidemic. the real has its own power. All the topics enable us to understand the situation of emergency and life-or-death situation in the epidemic area and show the acquaintance and solidarity between different people in this grand historical event. The ending point of the story is always the subtle actions of the healer's benevolence, and these actions are told in the calm and powerful narration without losing the temperature, which makes us cry and bless.
Both the first and third episodes refer to the “choice”. 12- patients had to have their limbs amputated as soon as possible, and once they went to another hospital for surgery, it was unclear whether he would be able to survive without ventilators. On the other hand, he was 81 years old. Will the doctors do everything they can for him, or will they leave the energy to other younger patients? This is another dilemma. If Dr Chen is dealing with two life-threatening situations in one patient, then Dr Wang's ECMO team is dealing with the choice between two patients. The 5 and 15 beds in the ICU were the two sickest patients. They all desperately need this one and only ECMO. 5-patient had malignant tumours that were more severe, while 15-patient would have missed their chance of recovery. Saving the dying, or saving the rescuable. The weight of life is so heavy, it rests entirely on the doctor's shoulders. The most striking thing is that doctors value and take responsibility for every life. In doctors' eyes, life is equal, not evaluated by secular values. 12-patients were kept alive but had their right legs amputated. 15-patient were released. 5-patients were killed 51 hours after he was placed in an ECMO. Medicine sometimes cures, often helps, always comforts. These doctors, when contrary to death's renegades, are also in an ethical dilemma at heart.
There are many other difficulties that health care workers most often face. In the fourth episode, the medical staff recalled a lot of impressive things, and we found out that they were also children, parents, helpless and in danger of life all the time. But at the moment of disease, they are invincible warriors who will never stop.
There is also "love" in this documentary. The healthy mother take care of her son suffering from a variety of diseases, the nurse coax the old man who resisted treatment to eat rice porridge, the doctor accompanied the patient to watch the sunrise... The BeiDao once said, "It is the light of love that wakes up and illuminates the landscape above zero." The truth in the world is not out, deeply moved us.
It is said that only when life meets the cliff can we see the existence of vitality. In this game with the virus, we see the most real human life. If suffering is meaningful, one is to teach us to cherish, and the other is telling us not to forget. May we all learn to be grateful and love life in this epidemic!
